I have been keeping freshwater tanks since I was in grade school, I’ve kept everthing from freshwater puffers to cichlids. I’ve always wanted a saltwater tank, and frankly I’m tired of the terror of the African cichlids.

The tank is 75 gallons and has been up for five years . It has aragonite subtrate for filtration it has a fx6 (but from what I understand canisters are not recommended for saltwater.

I’m planning to sell my cichlids, and turn the tank into a FOWLR tank.

My questions are :
1. Will any of the BB convert to fresh water or do I just need to change the substrate out and start from scratch

2. What should I do for filtration to replace the canister?

Any other tips will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

welcome aboard the r2r board!

to replace the canister you could always get, or make a sump, use HOB filters, or can always keep the canister as many reefers still use one.
