Other than being beneficial as a source of food, what other functions do they provide?

If I got a "bottle" of them from my local shop, which seems to be about $15-$20, how do I keep them? If I pour them into my refugium, how do I keep them from simply going with the current, getting sucked into pumps etc, and immediately no longer being in the fuge?

Pour some in the refugium and some in the DT. If they colonize is the refugium some will make up to the DT via the return pump.
