Can anyone out there tell me what is a good or accurate copper test . Using copper power and been trying to keep it near 2.5. Been using Hanna checker which I don't see the hype because it never gives you the same reading twice even when you test twice the same water exactly same time. Appreciate any input.

How much are they off? I did the same but with two different units at first as I was also on the fence but ultimately concluded that it was close enough for high range copper testing. 2.5 vs 2.45 was my recollection. Much better than any other copper testing out there that you will simply have to guess by the color and its chart.

I think its garbage really the Hanna one time its 2.45 then 5 hours later 2.04, at that point I did a retest and it came back 1.90 next time within 5 mniutes

I had called the company before last year and customer support told me that they are not that accurate but everybody on this site and other sites swears by it.

I’ve found their test powder to be defective in some lots & have confirmed those facts with their support. They have mailed me free replacements. Maybe the lot of the test powder that you got is defective. I suggest you to go to a LFS that you trust and borrow their unit to test.

My Hanna checker works fine. Getting the powder out of the packet is a trick, and you need to be careful about that. If you are seeing decreasing readings in a tank over time, you should suspect that something is removing the copper - some calcareous material perhaps. If the readings go up and down, then that is an issue that points to the meter or the reagents.
The true test is to measure some water that you have dosed with an accurate amount of copper. Then, test again a few minutes later. If the two tests are close to each other and close to the calculated dose, then the meter is fine.

I have called in the past (hanna Support) and was told that the copper checker is not that accurate for copper, but everyone I spoke to on site says different.

No - the units are fine overall. I think yours is defective. I ran a series of serial dilutions with a volumetric flask and a micropipette and got results that were well within their stated plus or minus 5% accuracy.

There must have been some miscommunication with Hanna. The low range copper test does NOT work well in saltwater, Hanna knows that and their techs will tell you that. The high range DOES work for coppersafe and copper power in seawater.

Hanna is a big company and not the easiest to deal with if you have problems, but the units have a one year warranty.

I did a test with my two units and the results are very close - 2% difference at the most
