I introduced a new copperband butterfly to my tank today and he seems to be chasing my hippo tang who has been in my tank for a few months now.

I haven't seen them fighting but mt hippo tang is keeping well away from him as possible.

I just wanted to know if this would eventually stop and both get along.

My hippo tang is probably a inch or so smaller than the copperband,
I have a 300ltr tank with a out 100kg of rock work.

I know it's small for them but they are moving into a bigger tank next year.

Albeit somewhat uncommon behavior for a CBB, they can be spunky. Usually once they are properly acclimated to their new tank, they can be easily bullied and die very quickly. In your case you have one that is more territorial than others. Its nothing to fret about and will no doubt subside in time. Just keep an eye on the hippo for nips on fins, specifically the tail fin.

You could try a mirror on the side of the tank to distract the CBB. Many people have had success with tang aggression using this method.
