Hello everyone.

I got this copperband two weeks ago. Still in QT with cupramine but noticed that the black thing in the fin it's getting bigger.

I wonder what it is and how to treat it. I was thinking furan 2 it's a good option. Of course it will be done after the cupramine.

Thanks in advance.

I will try a furan 2 treatment once the cupramine is done.

Any recommendations on other leads to use?

You can combine Kanaplex and/or Metroplex with Furan-2, to widen the spectrum of treatment.

Agree.

@Humblefish this is the third case of this I think we’ve seen in a week. Second on a copperband. Do you see black infections like this often?

I once QTd 4 CBBs over a 3 month span and all developed black spots. NFG fixed them all, except for one. But he also had velvet. :(

Thanks

Sorry but what does NFG mean?

NFG is Nitrofuracin Green is a commonly used antibiotic & antiseptic. I like it. It does turn the water green and requires daily water changes. Some local fish stores will sell it; if not it is readily available on the web. I always keep it in my fish med kit. Here's the explanation from Humblefish:

Nitrofurazone:
Treats open wounds or red sores.

How To Treat - Nitrofurazone is an antibiotic, and an active ingredient found in Furan-2 and Nitrofuracin Green Powder. Nitrofurazone is great for treating open wounds, and especially those “red sores” commonly seen on butterflyfish and some angelfish.

Pros - Highly effective; found in a number of bacterial disease medications

Cons/Side Effects - Appetite suppression; it has been discontinued in the US (for human use), which may possibly affect its availability for the pet industry.

Can I use furan 2 and cupramine together? I'm lowering the cupramine concentration as we speak. But I want to know if it's safe to use them together.

Thanks

Yes, but provide additional gas exchange to compensate for possible oxygen depletion from combining the meds.

Well I dose furan 2 but now the fish is in a corner... Not eating and the breathing have changed.

So I don't know what to do now... The quarantine it's over since I already moved all the other fishes to the DT. So the question would be. Should o transfer it to the DT and see how it goes?

Thanks

If it's not breathing well it might be too late, try and put an air bubbler in the water, or do a small water change. I would not put him in the DT that will just stress him more, and you would also be putting your DT livestock at risk

Sounds like he's having an adverse reaction to the medication. Do a large WC & run carbon to pull all meds out of the water ASAP.

I had to move it to the DT. Otherwise he wouldn't make it through the night.

I have seen little improvement, it's eating, little but it's something. The breathing It's still hard and it's really thin. I really hope he can make it.

I turn the wavemakers off, so there is little effort in swimming.

I will keep an eye on him for the next 48 hours and see how it goes.

Any treatment that it's reef safe?

Thanks!
