12 tentacles is alevopora. 12 + is goniopora. Both are very beautiful!
Thanks for that tidbit. I tried counting but having a hard time keeping my eyes focused long enough. I may have to print it out and mark the tentacles off as I count. Haha.

That's when you know it's a goni. You can divide alevopora in 2 sets of 6 pretty easy.

So are they also called flowerpot corals?
Yes they are. Just a common name. I believe alevopora is also called a daisy coral. They will also use flower pot for alevopora and goniopora. I believe daisy is only used on alevopora.
I had to check, but no info on goni being called daisy.

Now that you mention it. I found this in the sand bed the other day, I can't remember ever buying it. Can you name it for me? Thank you for thinking of this, great idea.
I'm like 99% that's a goniopora, not sure of the "brand name"

24 Tentacles though. Does it have a thick plate skeleton?

Anyone have any idea on these white zoa esk things from Anthony'sgf?
It’s a type of Goniopora, there’s some aquacultured ones offered from ORA listed as “Marshall islands” that looks similar :)

Edit: browser did not update, and I didn’t see all of the previous replies regarding the goni! Haha

its the best when that happens! and 9/10 they are happy healthy and gorgeous after not being messed with lol - kali
I agree, they settle into the lighting and flow and just go. Hoping that happens with my "higher end" zoa. Don't wanna lost them haha. I also found an old red base green polyp scroll coral that I thought died and found a piece tumbling in my frag tank with polyps all over it and green.

I just realized that this coral survived a tank upgrade last October, 46 to 75. Left the old sand in the 45 and gave the tank/stand to a friend, bought new sand because the old was too fine for my liking. Then in December I had an outbreak of aiptasia, tried everything to control it but just spread. Then I removed all rocks, fragged the corals because the aips was growing between the zoa polyps and put the frags back in tank. Scrubbed rocks clean and soaked in bleach/vinegar for almost a week, boiled the rocks outside in a pot and rinsed well. Placed the rocks back in my tank after I cleaned all equipment, replaced hoses etc. Slowly glued down the frags after I was sure no pests were on them. Now 8 months later I am pest free and found this gem, how amazing is this. In the last 8 months I did see a few aiptasias but I guess my Filefish or the 3 shrimps ate them. The first pic is 3 months after rocks cleaned, second 6 months later with found coral on rock in far right corner.

I have a favor to ask. See my Colt coral that is hosting my clowns? Last year it was half the size of a basketball and has been shrinking ever since. Here it is in my 46 bowfront last year. Can anyone tell me why it is shrinking? Same thing with the Duncan in the 46, I gave away because was not sure if it would survive. The guy I gave it to says it is fine. I have 2 single head Duncans of different strain. So strange, I have increased nutrients, everything else is growing. Thanks and take care.

wish I could help- I have some Kenya tree that has been the exact same size for nearly a year, but it looks happy! I’ve tried moving it higher, lower, more flow, less, and I even spot feed it. Nothing! All the other corals are taking off though, so I don’t want to mess with anything

Crazy timing on this thread. I just moved a piece of rock two days ago and noticed a half-dollar sized piece of beautiful pink/orange leptoseris growing in between. I had a piece that bleached and died in my smaller tank about 2 years ago. I pulled a small piece of rubble out about 6 months ago and seeded some dry rock in a 75 with it. I never found a place the original piece liked, but apparently it found its own happy place… an almost totally dark void with very low flow!

I ordered a zoa once and one of the polyps fell off the colony during shipping. I threw it in the quarantine tank because it looked dead. Fast forward a few months later, that polyp has attached to one of the rocks and it thriving.
