Hi All,

I'm a little new to the Reef Hobby, so I'm trying to take things slow and learn as much as possible.

Have had a tank up and running for about 4-5 months now. Everything in the tank (fish and corals) seems to be doing great.

However, I recently bought a coral at a LFS. I can't remember what it's name is; LFS guy definitely mentioned Australia but can anyone confirm what kind of coral it is?

The second point is that in the picture you can clearly see what I think is the green part receding and exposing the coral's spiny skeleton.
What can cause this? It's on the substrate, low flow, kind of low light.

My water parameters :
pH - 8.1
Ammonia - 0 ppm
Nitrite - 0 ppm
Nirtate - 30 ppm
Calcium - 361
dKH - 10.5
Phosphate - 0.25
SG - 1.025

I see the Nirtates and Phosphates a bit high?

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Marc

Looks like a scoly (homophyllia australis) with tissue recession. Many factors can cause recession from poor health at purchase to chemistry. Maybe try an iodine dip if it worsens. At night if you see its feeding tentacles I'd try giving it mysis or small particle zooplankton based foods.

Thanks guys.
It is in the corner where the flow is pretty low.
It looked very healthy at the LFS when I purchased it, so I tend to think that perhaps its my water?
As I mentioned, all the other stuff I have in the tank, Xenia, Devil's Hand, Torch, Hammer, Trumpet all seem to be doing well.

+1 ^^^ good advice.

Homophyllia australis is a possibility, I think could be a scolymia vitiensis too.
