Hey guys my 40 gallon has been running for like 3 months with no issues. Now my coral seems to be closed up during the day, but open and happy at night. I am confused why this would be happening
Thanks for any replies

Can we get the details on your tank? And maybe a few pics?

Reduce white light intensity and run lights from EG: 8am - 9pm
assure you are providing moderate water flow and light. Temp range 77-79 at 1.025 salinity

My white light is at 1 percent and everything else is in range, I do wish I could make the whites dimmer

I’ve heard that I can have this light at that high of a percent because it will bleach corals
15% ???
I run 5 Orpheks and my whites are at 28%. 1% is too dark and may explain coral behavior as they are lacking zooanthele which is their protein source captured by light. Theit light cycle is off track. Beneficial algae normally dwell within the cells of most reef corals. These algaes help feed the corals and give them their color. Higher-than-normal tank temperatures can cause coral bleaching. This means they lose that helpful algae. Affected corals can become bone white and may struggle to survive and when they bleach, some corals turn neon hues from red to blue to purple.
They use some of this white light for photosynthesis to make food for themselves. This also helps screen the corals from some of that bright sunlight effect.

Thanks I’ll turn it up and see how that works

I have been running Visparspectra at 60% blue, 1 white for 4 years, everyone happy.

Corals coming out day/night is dependent on coral.

Example, day....torches....frogs.....hammers all out
Night.....scollies.....Tracs......Candy canes........out full only at night.

That’s good to hear it’s mainly my Duncan that confuses me because it used to be open all the time but now it only opens at night
