I got this tiny piece of live rock at my LFS. It’s been a month and I’ve only seen them this week! Any ideas? Pictures might be hard to see but essentially they’re round with tentacles. I only seen them at night mostly as they glow under blue light.

thanks!

Can you take a pic with white light? It looks like it could be a ‘ball anemone’ which isn’t an anemone, it’s a psuedocorynactis, it’s a coralimorph like mushroom ‘corals’ (which technically aren’t corals, lol).

I’m 95% sure it’s a psuedocorynactis or ‘ball anemone’. They’re not pests like aiptasia, but they can sting other corals. Personally, I think they’re cool and leave them be, but it’s your tank, so it’s up to you.

Thanks yeah I’ll see if I can get a better picture tomorrow morning. They’re on a separate rock so I hope they stay put. Nice colours tho aha

Pretty sure it’s a ball anemone as others have stated. Pics weren’t super clear, so there's a chance it’s a hidden cup coral, if that’s the case it would have a stony skeleton, so you should be able to easily distinguish between the two. Here’s a pic of a hide up coral for reference.

Perfect thanks both! So since you have them in your tank, I’m going to say that they’re safe. Thanks for all the help!

You didn’t read my statements. I would get rid of the ball anemones. In my experience they can reproduce like crazy and they will kill off some of your CUC
