A long while back, back when I was researching info for reef tanks, I came across a video where they mentioned something that should never leave the water. ( I think it was a sponge or something like that.) tomorrow I’m about to get my first ever shipment of corals and suddenly I goth thinking, are there any corals that I should be careful to not fully leave the water?

I think it was indeed a sponge as air can get trapped in its body.

I've never heard a coral that can't leave the water. I could be wrong though, so take that with a grain of salt.

Same, I've been told Gorgonians should stay in water.

Huh. I've taken my photosynthetic gorgs out of the water, briefly, with no apparent ill effects. They are pretty moody, though, and sometimes close down for a few days on me for seemingly little reason.

I have a few Gorgonians. Grubes, Purple Candelabra and a Corky. All have been out of the water and all were dipped in coral rx. No ill effects at all.
I agree that they can be a bit cranky sometimes for no apparent reason, close up for a day only to come back the next day in full 'bloom'.
