Doing research it seemed so unlikely to have 0.0 nitrate that I went and bought a new test kit. Ammonia 0.0, nitrite 0.0 nitrate 40ppm!!! Time for a water change! What the heck, piece of crappola API test could have destroyed my tank... never again will I buy anything API...

This is the most humbling hobby ever... I can’t believe I though “great filter” instead of piece of crap test kit. Could that have contributed to the rapid decay of the clown? The Clarki has been seriously perfect in that water, so maybe whatever the snowflake had was made worse by the high nitrate? Dunno, but I have a few water changes in my near future. So glad I continued to conversation beyond the ID of the pests, or I would have went on believing my API test kit was working.
