So I found this really neat looking crab in my tank. Today I found him on one of my loose zoa plugs and I can’t tell if he’s eating the coral or picking at stuff off the peg? Can anyone identify him and also tell me if he’s harmless? BA0C25AB-6350-4B61-A2DC-677F7EFCDC53.jpeg

Looks like an Emerald Crab... if it is it's an algae eater. Do you have a better picture of it?

Maybe a strawberry crab? If so, harmless. As mentioned above you'll need a better pic, especially of claws

With video of it eating my vote is emerald... he's doing his coral cleaning. Mine does a warpath through my GSP looking for algae.

It looks hairy. Looks like it's literally pulling coraline off the rocks.
Does it have pointy claws?
Can you pull it out and put it in glass and take a picture?
I think you may want to be sure about this one.

Good call Fishy212! I looked this up and it definitely looks like a red mithrax. Relative of the emerald crab so I can see why many think it’s an emerald.
I guess I have to keep him fed or he’ll go after my other inverts and Coral. Actually - I am missing a skunk shrimp. No remnants of him anywhere and I just saw him last night!

Yup, ruby mithrax. Probably reef safe though if they get hungry they may do bad things (as reported by others, I’ve personally never had an issue)

Clear reef vision: How do you clean the inside of the glass on your aquarium?
