Found this guy eating flesh off of an acropora. Is it a baby gorilla crab?

I see this suggested often - Do people put these in their sump because they grow and look cool or as Detritus control? Is there a benefit to having them in the sump?

As I understand it's a way to keep reef-incompatible critters if you can't give them to an LFS - I for one would be uncomfortable sentencing a critter to death just because they accidentally caught a ride and my LFS wouldn't take em.
