Hey guys, ive just bought second hand (to my knowledge) real reef rock and real dead coral
Its been sitting in the guys garage for about 4 years, dried out
Just wondering
Should i cure them and how do i cure the real reef rock without losing the purple colour ?

The reef coral i can bleach because its already white im assuming
But the real rock is purple

Any advice will be appreciated

You can likey bleach it that purple rock looks to be some of that artificial rock alternatively you can use a lot of peroxide in the water you soak it in

Curing rock, what do you mean? You want to use it in a new set up, so set up some 5-gallon buckets with fresh mixed saltwater and let them sit for a week, and then test the buckets to see if you have nitrates, phosphates, or copper leaching from out of the rock If you got not leeching. leave them wet in the bucket for a couple more weeks, toss in a bit of fish food to feed the bacteria and after 3 weeks you will be on your way towards the resurrection of life into the new rock for your tank.

If a bucket is high in Phosphorus, you can add lanthanum chloride into the bucket to precipitate out the phosphorus... If you have copper, you will need to take a different treatment, same issues if your rock is leaking nitrates, These are the three common leechers that you may encounter, but getting those elements to useful reef tank levels while starting the biological filter is the only cure for dead rock that I can think of.

If you don't have any leaching issues then treatment is just feeding the bucket water and a little fish food, and maybe supplemental addition of live bottle bacteria.

I was under the impression the i needed to cure it (bleach) because of not knowing the condition of it from the previous owner
Dead organisms, phosphates, etc but if i can do that
Id prefer it to be honest
