HI all,

Currently on E40 250w Radium 20k, and looking for alternative bulbs,

being in the UK i can possibly get Ushio from Germany, as they have popped up as a good alternative but not sure if that would be 14 or 20k

or would you just get new radiums.

Looks like more choices in the USA, but may be available from Europe too just not really advertised here, also what is Mogul bulb, wpuld thet be E40 fitting ?

so.....what else is on the market, i like the look of the radium, just would like better as always :)

thanks

Seems " mogul" may be reserved for E 39 which is very similar to E 40.
Historically both are probably referred to as mogul base bulbs and have been used interchangeably.

The E40 base has a diameter of 40mm. It’s predominantly used in Europe and parts of Asia. On the other hand, the E39 base, commonly known as the Mogul base in North America, has a diameter of 39mm.
"The most common lamp base differences are
European E27 (ES) and E40 (GES), U.S.A
E26 (Med) and E39 (Mogul). Most Pierlite
fittings come with E27 and E39/E40
(universal) lampholders. E26 lamps fit E27
lampholders but lamp problems can occur
due to poor contact. E40 lamps typically fit
E39 lampholders but E39 lamps will not fit
E40 lampholders correctly causing lamp
problems."

Why make anything easy...
;)
There is an EX39 size as well.
E39 and EX39 Mogul bases are primarily used in North America while E40 bases are popular in Europe, although these can often be used interchangeably due to the 1-millimeter difference in base size. EX39 bases have a longer tip than E39 bases, and are interchangeable in either E39 or EX39 sockets, whereas E39 bases can only be used with E39 sockets.

Radium and Ushio are legendary for growing coral.

Reef Brite and Aqua Bright solutions run cooler than Radium’s. I’ve never used Ushio.
