I'm looking at purchasing Imagitarium White Gloss Fish Tank Stand, Up to 40 Gal. I can't post the amazon link to it for some reason. Does anybody know whether it would be possible to cut a hole in the top for an overflow? Has anybody had experience with these stands?

I don't have any experience with this specific stand, but I don't see why you shouldn't be able to.
AS long as you don't cut into the rear or side supports.
Any hole you do cut is going to expose the particle board to potential water and we all know what happens to particle board and water.
If this was my only choice for a stand, I would look to add reinforcement wood to it.
