Hi all,

Can you please help me identify what kind of algae is this?

And also how to remove it from tank :face-with-rolling-eyes:
It covers entire sand on the bottom. Also it's interesting that over night when there is no light.. it goes away.

@Marcus81
Welcome to r2r.

Help us help you. More information is required.

How long has tank been set up?
What is the source of substrate & rock?

I assume your picture is a magnified view. A full tank picture with white light would be very, very helpful.

Check out nuisance algae from Reef Cleaners and free guide from live plants for macro algae and you tell us what you have.

PS: When you said “disappears at night”, I suspect Cynobacteria. When you gravel vac, does algae come off in sheets?

this is a cyano mat.
although dinos are most notable for "going away" at night, many species of cyano and diatoms also do a daily vertical migration.

Agreed. I have cyano mats in my fuge that will reduce to almost nothing at night.
