Hello,

I just received 10lbs of live rock from Florida (Shoutout Gulf Live Rock) and planning to put it in the sump 26G with leds.. My tank is on day 30 of cycle (Marco +Live Sand + Bottled Bacteria) and what looks likes diatom outbreak in full force.

Is there any good reasons I should put the live rock directly into the display to enhance/speed up my cycling/biodiversity enhancement?

My reason for putting it in sump is A) pests , B) I already have a complete aquascape and do not need anymore rock..

That being said I want to leverage the value of actual live rock in yielding a stable and successful reed tank (LPS, Softies, fish)

Any pro's or con's out there on my plan?

The goal is healthy reef tank, keep things simple...
TY

Doesn't matter where you put it. If the pest is small enough, it will find a way up top.
"As it is up top, so it shall be below" Put it in display so you have room to see what crawls out. Check both day and night, as some critters are nocturnal.

Nothing says you can't just put some rocks in random places for a bit, then remove, to "Jumpstart the cycling..." up to you.

That's the beauty of this ****, it's all up to you in the end.

I have used Florida live rock before...would not again. Lots of crabs..some so small you don't know their there until they grow bigger and fish disappearing. Also odd snails and other pests. All of the seed rock in florida are in waters that attract these pest..shallow areas and all in the same area...so unless it's be scrubbed..I say pass...dry it out and maybe use it in display later..imo.

Perhaps isolate in QT for observation to identify any unwanted pests. Later on in the sump where I'd put it and exactly what I'm planning because hardscaping with base rock going to be easier and more pragmatic although I might change my mind later.
