Hi everyone,

Its been a while since i started a tank w/ live rock and live sand. I set up a waterbox cube 20, and added live rock and live sand to it. This stuff has been in the LFS tank for years.
Do I still need to cycle this tank by adding bacteria and ammonia as one would do with dry rock? or can I add livestock slowly since there is already bacteria on the rock and sand. Thanks

well done

what a perfect origin of rock known history

that's totally backed by pics, that's cured rock with coralline, there's no better rock in reefing. its what the hobby cut it's teeth on, now white rocks lacking any biome rule the roost.

thats a total skip cycle

add no bac

don't even test for ammonia and nitrite

simply go :)

heck, yours is such perfect example I made it the first read in the whole thread. its the rock that any reefer should select first go, if you can. its the rock that heads off or suppresses a few of the biggest current headaches in reefing.

the reason we don't test for ammonia and nitrite is because there is no setting in which those rocks won't confer a perfect reading, and when folks bother to test anyway and get something off kilter, that's their cheap test kit vs reality.

that is infallible cycle rock. it doesn't even need ramp up time; your filter is fully functional 30 seconds after the rock is set in the tank and stays that way until its dried. it can't be starved, stalled, harmed, insulted, its locked if there's water.

fish disease is where its at

see the disease forum

notice how nearly all entrants for help are within their 8th month

what did they skip doing? what did Jay recommend they do to fix that disease (had nothing to do with cycling)

u gotta hunt down and study today's fish disease protocol. its not like the old days

you can't skip

:) even though you used to skip

you can't any more, watch what happens by May if u do

Should be good to slowly add a reef into it.
