Daniel,
If your still thinking about firing up a cal reactor please use @hybridazn 's method.

My GEO two stage has been firing for about two months and could not be happier.

Hope your reef is turning for the better.

Freddie

Could you link the method? I looked but couldn’t find it

The second one shows the continuous flow / instead of dripping the output.

Did a fairly large water change today. Planning to do another in a few days. I also turkey basted the heck out of my sand bed and tried to do some other major cleaning. It's not overhauled yet, but will be working on getting things back on track. I was encouraged to see that my Vivid Rainbow is showing some polyps in spots...I thought it was dead... ;Mask

I'm glad you found some time to work on the tank!

Any chance you have a little pump like this?

I find it much more effective for blowing crud out from deep within porous rock.

Daniel,
Have you tried out the Python "No-Spill" to keep your sand bed clean while performing water changes?

It's the hose you connect to your sink. You run water from the faucet and it creates a vacuum.
Hmmm... might not work on mine because my tank is pretty far from my sink

I didn't either. :(

Even the fish and LPS? I thought it was just a case of the uglies from lack of maintenance causing problems with the SPS.

Well, the tank was mostly SPS, and unfortunately it's about a 99.56% loss. I think I have a couple of montis and one acro that are barely hanging on. LPS is mostly ok. Fish are thriving like nothing's happened at all. LOL

I know the basic issue was neglect from some major traveling I did towards the end of last year. Basically, I ended up with an alk swing that took out some acros and set off a domino effect that practically leveled all of my SPS. I'm not gonna lie...for a while, I didn't even really wanna look at the tank, but at this point I think it's time to put some major effort into the rebuild now that the dust has pretty well settled.
