Winner will be determined by Reef2Reef Member voting by poll. In order to be eligible to have votes counted in the poll, voting members must have at least 25 meaningful posts and have been a member of R2R for at least 1 month by the time the poll ends (votes that do not meet this criteria may show in the poll but will be disregarded in the final count). I thought it said in the rules it must be in your reef that you took... clearly some of those are in the ocean and or public aquarium. I also remember them saying something like that in their descriptions

Nope. The requirement is just that it be your photo and of the subject. Here's the entry requirement:

Entering is easy, just follow these simple guidelines: Enter ONE photo, taken by you of the subject for the month, before the deadline.

Here's how they qualify it:

• The photo must be of your reef, shot by you, and posted to the threads by you. We will also accept actual reef photos shot by you (i.e. in the ocean)

The "your reef" comment might be the cause of some confusion, but photos taken in the ocean are definitely permitted per the last clause there. Public aquariums might be a gray area (does it still qualify as a reef photo?), but I think is still probably allowable. (I'll shut up now and let the guy who handles the contest clear it up where I might be mistaken.)

Alright thanks I may have read it wrong. Or maybe it's just the January one up now that says it

I'll have to pay more attention next time especially if an ocean pic is taken wont be able to beat those huge corals and large schools of fish.

Great pics of the corals everyone especially the ones that grew them

That's not necessarily the case, there have been other photo of the month contest with pictures related to ocean specific images that while were great to look at, didn't necessarily win the POTM..
