So it looks like you had the fish for 5 days, right? Not 14 hours?
I highly doubt your pH has anything to do with it. My pH has gotten quite low (and that's fluctuating, not consistent) during large gatherings at my house in the winter months (CO2 goes up, pH drops) and have never had a death from it fish or otherwise. Sorry that he didn't make it. Sometimes its hard to tell why, especially if they don't look or act sick beforehand.
