Hello,
I have a pretty well established tank (7+years). Recently I decided to get an ATS (about 3 months ago) and remove my skimmer. At the same time I made a mistake and used Vibrant (which I realized caused the Cyano outbreak). Since then I have noticed an abundance of things I never experienced in my tank. I had Cyano (used chemiclean, and it is gone now), then diatoms, and now some patches of GHA. My levels stay pretty consistent at .03ppm of phosphate and about 5ppm of nitrate. I have triple checked my RODI water and it has 0 TDS and I even checked it for phosphate and it had 0.
The ATS gets a lot of growth and seems to be able to export the nutrients quite well. I have a decent CUC (mostly hermits but also some smaller turbo snails, astra, trochus, and nassarius) and I even went ahead and got a Sea Hare (even though it it's really going near the GHA patches) . My main question is will the diatoms (growing on rocks, sand, etc daily)/GHA eventually go away with the ATS in place? Is there something I can do to remove them? I have had the diatoms for over a month now and the GHA doesn't appear to be going away.
Any additional suggestions would be very helpful. All my corals are doing wonderful. Just trying to clean up the tank and have it thrive.
