Dinos... Is it live sand?
IMHO, using course sand like that will lead to issues later on. That type of substrate has given a lot of people I know issues by trapping more detritus. Burrowing fish and snails seem to not care for it either....

No it was new dry sand. I never knew it would cause issues. Wish I would have known that. I’ve had issues with sand blowing around so I went with course

More then likely a type of diatoms.. its a mini cycle. You added dry sand that has no colonized bacteria. Keep nutrients in check, and they will eventually go away. If adding more (new) substrate, its a good idea to add little by little. You dont want to choke out bacterias in the existing bed too fast, or youll have an immediate impact on h20 quality. Give them time to adjust if its 2" thick or better.

I hope it's diatoms also - but if it showed up quickly, it's probably dinos. Everyone seems to use a microscope to ID for sure.
