5/27/2022 Long time no update but getting back on track! Been fighting a little bit of nuisance algae but nothing to bad. Put the eshopps skimmer back in and pulled out the 2nd heater (winters over in PA) but it never skims, never has. Thinking it's a bioload issue. But I let it run for the ph boost. First water change in a month (I know I'm terrible!) But its looking alright. A local guy is going to give me a hammer and leather this weekend. Any thoughts on having a leather and bta in a 20 gal system? I know the leathers can throw off toxins so I'd rather not risk it. Feel free to let me know your experience! Top down photo I took after the water change (next wc we will take the algae on the rocks) Cheers!

2/5/2022 Its been a long time without and update to the thread! I've decided to get back on top of that, and as so will be editing this comment as u make further updates. Finally. And I mean FINALLY through the fight with algae/dinos for the very most part and the tank has been looking awesome as of late. (Pic incoming!)

I added a uv sterilizer and believe it or not stopped running my own RODI water and switched to distilled.. and the tank has loved it. I know I'll probably catch some flak for that one lol.. I also stopped running filter socks and started using a second media chamber, as well as re-purposing an intank refugium as another media chamber.

Cheers! Looking forward to the next update. Haven't been able to purchase in roughly like 8 months or so due to the algae, can wait for that again (I hear a hammer calling my name)..

Hey everyone!! I'm super late to the bulid thread party.. im running a nuvo 20 (my first reef!) Whom is creeping up on 1 1/2 years old! And in that time I've been to hell and back! LOL

Crappy darn pic. ‍♂️

Fast forward after testing EVERYDAY with those api test kits (oh the impatience) 3 months later I was about to get my first EVER saltwater fish! So the plan was a regular ocellaris clownfish. But after (finding) stopping at a semi local lfs and seeing a black clown I was inlove (is she a mocha? Not sure, sold to me as black clown) anyhow I couldnt wait to get her in the tank! Here is some visual enjoyment for those of us whom enjoy picture books 20200707_135728.jpg

She was such a tiny little thing

First peice of coral! 2 polyp utter chaos I got from WWC

After my first clown was in the tank for about 2 months, I added the standard clown I originally planned on. I got the smallest guy I could find to hopefully reduce the dominance battle

What a tiny guy he was. You could see right threw him!

So, after both the clowns had been in the tank for a month I was quite confident they were all settled in, my buddy calls me out of the blue "yo man, there's a local guy who just gave me 3 "watermelon" bubble tip anemones" you want one?" Being the nookie, I said hell yes. Well, the clowns thank me. It was really funny watching them figure out this little sea creature would be their home

Here's the nem when it was first added to the tank

It really seemed to enjoy hosting the clowns of course it did a little bit of moving

So after the nem and coral from wwc, and no issues, I felt in a great spot (reefing is too easy?!) So I decided to go with some cheaper vendors for corals. Following all the dip protocols, but still ran into some issues with gha that came on a frag plug.

So what was my bright idea? Run gfo. I use the hanna ulr phosphate checker. And I was was running it I watched the p04 drop.. .08 .... .04 .... .02 and got sick, subsequently negelected the tank and tested the p04: it was 0. Bring on the dinos

This was March

This was may

This was the last pic I took before leaving the state for a week.. which is what currently has me doing my bulid thread! I'm missing my tank! (And I'm a nervous wreck) I'll add a list of equipment and changes if you guys are curious. Here to my first (and won't be my last) build thread!! Now that I actually got a thread I'm excited to keep updating it! Stay tuned!!

TLDR: I suck but I'm learing.. maybe the hard way LOL Snapchat-79750641.jpg 20210730_142639.jpg

Git back home today. Think my mother may have fallen for hungry eyes.. my p04 wa at .248 ppm before the water change.. never see the number that high EVER

This was my number done with the hanna ulr tester as always

I also noticed the flow on the tank looked to be lacking and oh boy was it so the tunze 6040 I use got a good cleaning today

So I decided to run a 1/4 cup of gfo, bag of purigen (in the tank already at the time) and chemi pure blue nano.

Really hoping to just get over this very long battle I've had.. I want to buy some coral in the worst way! It's been many months!
