Amazing work The Reef Institute.. thank you. It is interesting to learn that 50 -80% of all of the oxygen we breath comes from photosynthetic algae (especially zooxanthellae algae) in the ocean.

Their only request was that we use this giveaway as an opportunity to introduce you all to The Reef Institute and make sure you are aware of the great work they're doing to give back to the ocean reefs we love so much!

*Make a separate post in this thread after completing any of the bonus entries. Winning entry is subject to verification.

Check out The Reef Institute's introduction thread, and welcome them to Reef2Reef by commenting in that thread with a comment or question about their work.

Our winner will be chosen via random draw from this thread on February 22, 2021! (Last day to enter is February 21st.)

We will choose the winner via a random number generator. The winner's username will be tagged in the winning announcement. We will not email, pm, or contact the winner other than tagging the winning name. Be sure to check back to claim your prize. If it is not claimed within 3 days we will do a re-pick and so on until the prize is claimed.

I subscribed !! I absolutely love the idea of the adopt a coral program and I am very interested in learning more. I love Florida and everything about the Ocean, I am very passionate about the animals, I was sad to learn that there is a disease killing the corals, I was amazed to learn that the reefs are home to over 1,000 species of fish. Thank you for what you do !!

One think I learned from their site is:
Unfortunately, it is estimated globally, that by the year 2050, 90% or more of the world’s coral will be gone.
which is a deeply troubling sentence :(

Bonus Entry 3: Coral Reefs are important for countless reasons but one of my biggest concerns is my children and future grandchildren’s world without coral reefs

Bonus entry 3: Coral reefs are an ecosystem. If the reefs go away, you lose a lot of varieties of fish and inverts!
