You at least found the way to make a room sized tank look like a two foot cube tank!
Isn't that the truth!!

My goal is to get the big, bigs out to a new bigger tank (30k gallon) and have the largest fish be like a sohal or a blond naso. The 18"ers are fun to hand feed at night but have made a mess out of the reef specially with the SPS... Bulls in a china shop... always some big piece broken and laying at the bottom of the tank.

Goal for this year is to get the bigs out, upgrade the filtration and get my Nitrates and Po4 under control.

Happy new year Dave. How many shrimp are you up to per day with those bigs?
Sorry just saw this!

Happy New Year to you too!! :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

17 full sized Costco shrimp (11 food processed - 6 cut into large chunks), 5 sheets of Nori and two dumps of mixed pellets per day right now... and they would still eat way more!!

Great addition! I'm partial because I have a blueface in my reef as well. Such a pretty fish. It doesn't really pick at anything. In your tank, it wouldn't matter much since there are so many corals that a little picking here and there wouldn't be too big a deal.

Those fish are getting huge Dave. How’s the sps coming along.
They are very big! :astonished-face: I want to get the bigs out to a public or large private aquarium here soon.

Nitrates and Phosphates are still super high... haven't been able to make the needed adjustments to bring those down yet but getting closer.

SPS are down to about 20% of the coral coverage right now... LPS, softies and others are loving the high nutrients.

Looking to do the skimmer swap soon and plumb in the new UV's.

Fish are doing so good, I'm still dumping in a ton of food each day... :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

Love the big tangs but would also love to see it full of Acropora. I’m sure it’s a tough choice. I’m probly partial to the coral….just barely. What about a large school of anthias?

Wow, that Asfur looks great too. Very cool to see the angels in the tank.
He’s one of my favorites! His coloration is amazing!! Want to grow him huge, such a great fish!!

Truth be told I do love it more with all the SPS in there! I have a plan to get back to that water quality so I can grow more sticks in the future.

Here is the plan:

- sell off the biggest tangs (8-10) to a public aquarium or giant private tank, only keep tangs that max out around a foot long.
- install the 8’x24” giant skimmer sitting next to the tank in the basement
- redo some of the layout and plumbing to allow for larger consistent water changes - new inline barrels (500-1000) gallon capacity
- marine pure blocks or large k1 media style reactor to increase surface area for better nitrate control
- smaller daily lanthanum dosing to attack high phosphates

I’ve tried a few rounds of anthias but they slowly seem to just disappear in the big tank. Once I get rid of the bigs I’ll try again

I do have one square box anthias that loves it in there… need like 20 more ;)
