After 30 years I have decided to get back into saltwater tanks with a 65 gal reef. So much has changed, and it seems for the better—we will find out.

I missed documenting the initial set-up—here is the jist:
Found a used 65 gal show tank(tall), was set-freshwater.
Came with a canister filter, heater, and lots of rock(much of it dead coral rock)
Cleaned it all picked the rocks I liked and got started.

Here is my first pic about 1 month in—clearly the uglies. Followed by a pic about every other week.

My first tank had alot of lava rock like that incorporated into the structure. After it turns purple you can't tell the difference and I think it makes very effective "live" rock. Pretty much MarinePure blocks before there was MarinePure blocks...

Thanks--that is what I was hopping--very porous.
