Historically there have been BF sales. Two of my three prior purchases were at that time and they were discounted.

Thank so much SG. I really would like to get the Meridians but they aren't even out yet. Will probably go with the Proton V2s. How do you like the fixtures?

This person / company rep claimed they can get meridians early and discounted.

I use photon 48 v2 and I’m very happy with it. It blankets my 48” 75g tank front row back, end to end with complete coverage. I can grow any coral in here

I tend to run heavy blue with whites on 8% max. But if you like a more white look, there is plenty of room to customize as you like.

I love that coral pop and growth I get with my settings so that’s what I use

I got my V2 pro last year on BF sale. I think it was on sale for all of November though so I'm not sure if that means they aren't doing it this year?

I'm happy with it, looks sleek, I can't hear the fans ever.

would you wait for Meridian. I like to be on the cutting but not the bleeding edge
If I were starting a new tank or replacing lights maybe. I wouldn't pay a hefty premium to get the meridian unless it had features or improvements I just had to have. The photons are tried and true and the meridian isn't, at least not yet. That said I haven't really looked into the meridian line to compare the two.

I don’t see a need to upgrade from photon to meridian unless you had a larger or deeper tank and coverage issues. The meridian lenses are swappable to be more focused for deeper tanks or broader for wider tanks

The units can daisy chain for power. That’s pretty cool and cuts down on wires

The housing is redone. It’s sleek if you ask me. But the photon is also sleek. Both look nice over a tank.

There’s a few other minor changes that might be valuable to some but not others.

They increase the Royal blue and UV…but I have plenty of royal blue and I don’t feel uv really does much.

The price has increased a lot. But they claim you now can use a smaller light

Example. - the photon 48 v2 is light designed for a 48” tank.

Now with meridians they claim I can light my tank with the meridian 35 instead of the meridian 45. Even if this is true, and the par is even, the source of light is over a smaller area and I like that my 48” light goes almost end to end so corals are all lit from above, downwards, and not getting light at some extreme angle only from one direction.

I do think the meridian is a sleek fixture, but if there was a deal on photons I don’t think I can justify the price difference

Meridian 35 - 999
Meridian 45 - 1300

My photon 48 was msrp of 800 I think, and in my eyes it’s equal / replacement is the meridian 45 at 1300$ I don’t see 500$ in value and I would get photon lumen bars instead.

I don’t know what sales they will have but your decision may be limited because they discontinued the photons and they are getting hard to find new. Used however you can find great deals. I know two people who got nearly new photon 48’s for 450 and 500$. It’s a steal at that price

My tank is 72x30x25 and I would use 3 x RB Proton V2s mounted front to back (like you suggested VR) the other thing I have been looking at is Orphek Natura icon?

Well. The Meridian 63…this could be a good choose but I don’t know the price difference between 3 of the photons or the Orphek

But. This would be a very very nice looking setup of you got a Meridian 63 - this has coverage of 75 x 24

So that’s one light, mounted in the proper landscape orientation, that will illuminate the entire tank horizontally and most of it from front to back. We are 6” short on that 30” width of yours.

So. You could center the light and split the difference - 3” in the very front and 3” in the very back would be low par which is fine for acans and blastos and lps

Or you could mount the light 3” off center, so 3” closer to the rear glass, and put a 63” edge bar on it, which covers 75x8. You can angle them inwards too minimize spill

Meridian 63 looks like it’s $1700
The edge bar cost im unsure of

I would stick with the 3 photons. Or…for a little more a single Meridian 63, get it over the tank and run with it until I felt a need to cover that 3-6”. And at that point down the line if I needed to, I’d get the edge bar and integrate it with the built in mount system.

Looks sleek I can’t deny that
And you can tank mount it with the mounting legs that are included and not have to deal with hanging it

I know we worked this out before and three of the smaller photons rotated 90 degrees also would provide full coverage

It’s a personal choice and I think both are good ones.

There’s a lot of pros and cons actually

With 3 lights if you ever had an issue with one you would still have two others. So there’s redundancy there

With 3 you have flexibility of individual power control. So if you had sps on one side and lps on the other, you could adjust par appropriate and individually

A single light is easier to mount and control

Thanks! Looks like 11” and 24” sizes there. I’ll be looking for the larger sizes when they come out. Looking forward to reduced all the wires from my 6 radions
If you can remember, please let me know if they get 63"

Does anyone know if RB lights ever go on sale?
I talked to Logan (RB owner) last week.
Prices for photon increased at his website due to not being available anymore.
He actually told me if I see them online at a different store cheaper, buy it.

I just bought one online and another my friend had(unused) to upgrade my 48". It was 8.5years old. I went with (2) 24" pro units on my 60" tank. Much better coverage because I can separate them by 5".
I did leave my (4) t5's in also.

Bottom line, buy now or you'll have to go with maridians.
