That exactly. I have a very dedicated friend who watches my tank when I am not home for longer than 3 days in a row. She knows most of the things needed and she is a chemist which means I don't have to explain like 70% of the trait to her and she can do a test if needed and dose without killing herself. I can trust her expertise. She is so accurate that she insists coming over before I leave even though nothing has changed to take notes of everything and even asks things I never would have explained to anybody else because I don't think they matter. Yes she is as real scientist. But even though she already knows 70% and watches my tank(s) for 10 years now, she only does that so often and not every day. And the 70% are the parts that do not need any checking most of the time when I have dialled it in. Most things I have automated anyway. It's like 5% that I expect to go wrong and these 5% need experience with the specific setup. I also know my tank by sound. And explain a specific sound to somebody. Even my spouse which also knows my tank by sound refers to some things as "that bubbly sound" ... but that bubbly sound can mean 5 things really. She knows those 5 things but she cannot distinguish the sound and has to check all 5 things.lol's. I'm leaving my tank with my hubby for 5 days. He has printed schedules for morning and nite duties. I hate leaving my tank as I know it well. Even by sound.
imho a real reefer is one that is dedicated to the hobby, learns from failure and even maxes out her/his credit card and goes day and night just to do everything possible to care for everything creeping about in this system. Somebody who wants to know every aspect of this ecosystem. Somebody trying to be just a bit better in this hobby every day
