I want to decrease white light but don’t want to inhibit growth of corals right now especially sps.

Does white light promote coral growth or will blue and violet colors do the same?

Yes all light can have some effect on photosynthesis however blue in the 420 and 460 and red light have by far the most impact. So what really matters for you is what light your using, kessil's white light for instance is mostly blue so it most definitely affects PUR.

Red is generally kept very low because corals are typically not very good at utilizing it while algae most definitely is. to be more clear the chlorophyll in both the dinos in the coral and algae in your tank can certainly use the red light corals are often not exposed to very much red light at all so they are adapted much more to blue.
