Do you ever wonder how your tank stacks up, equipment wise, to same or similar sized tanks? What are you missing? Do you have too much stuff?

So in order to make this work we have to have you tell us about your tank! So do it by answering the following.

What size reef tank do you have and how much total water volume?

Please list all of your equipment:

  • Lighting (brand and how many)
  • Skimmers, Filters & Filtration Equipment
  • Powerheads and water movers
  • Live Rock/Substrate (what type and how much)
  • Sea Salt Mix/Saltwater
  • Heater/Chiller
  • RO/DI
  • Reactors(any kind calcium, carbon etc.)
  • Aquarium controllers
  • UV Sterilizers
  • Other?
Don't forget to tell us your tank size!

Super Amazing Tank Build by @Broadfield Check it out here.

Wow I see a lot of money in these tanks. Thousands of dollars $$$$. I keep it simple. I’ve been running a 75 gallon makes reef aquarium for about 16 months. Fluval FX6 canister filter only. No sump,No protein skimmer.Just simple.

Yeah I like them. The only issue I have is my choice of VCA nozzles on all my returns including the sea swirls. The nozzles cause more drain back into the sump than I want, but I still have plenty of reserve in the sump so I guess I shouldn't complain.

I’m certain I wil be odd man out, but it’s not the equipment it’s the knowledge of its usage that matters. I have a 75 with no sump, hob reef octopus skimmer, hob cpr refugium and viparspectra lights. I run 150lbs live rock and sand and I raise softies and great fish and inverts. My tank takes more hands on, but my results are much to my liking and everything is thriving.

Currently, I'm happy with both my tanks configurations with gear. Sure there's alot of cool stuff out there but what I have is working and working well. It's taken about 5 years to stabilize from all the bonehead things I thought would've worked. My Kessils work well for my mixed & SPS stuff, Vortechs work well for the same. Skimmers, ATOs and Apex classic and minor add ons are all "doing what they're supposed to do". Overall I'm pretty happy and I spend more time these days enjoying the tanks vs making adjustments. Now my 8 gal nano frag tank is another story...

New build here, BareBottom 60g 24x24x24 cube with 30g 22x20x16 sump I put together. Mostly old equipment from previous tank.
1 - 250w 14k Phoenix bulb metal halide, Hamilton Cayman Sun reflector, IceCap ballast
1 - Radion XR15 Gen4 Pro
2 - Tunze 6105 controllable pumps
- Eshopps 120 skimmer
- Sicce 2.0 return pump
- GHL Doser2.1 dosing kalk and small amount ESV Bionic 2part and ESV mag
- ATO and AWC using the Smart Aqua unit (loving this by the way)
- No controller
- Hanna Alk and PO4 ULR checkers and Salifert for the rest
- Basic home depot fuge light for now
- filter socks and a bag of carbon on occasion once a month maybe
- lots of rock in display and rock, rubble and miracle mud in sump
That's about it, simple kinda old school setup, mostly just skimmer and rock. And now on month 5 has been super easy to maintain. The only piece of equipment I think I'll add is a kalk stirrer, been looking at the IceCap magnetic stirrers. Also just added 1st SPS tester frag and it is doing good so floodgates are opening.

My tank is my starter tank; I wasn't too sure about the hobby as I already have quite a few other hobbies. I started off with a wish tank that was no where near as cheap as it should have been; the tank is only 17 us gallons. I then found a few second hand goodies and have been making my way with that.
  • Lighting (brand and how many)
1xAquabeauty hand me down.
  • Skimmers, Filters & Filtration Equipment
I have a modified hob filter from the initial purchase; i have since added a pond pump running through a modified 2littlefishies phos reactor for extra bio, mechanical and carbon filtration.
  • Powerheads and water movers
My 1x fluval cp2 died thismorning. Otherwise just the hob and pond pump filter monster.
  • Live Rock/Substrate (what type and how much)
2Kg of sand and 1kg liverock i cant remember the breed.
  • Sea Salt Mix/Saltwater
Redsea mixed reef.
  • Heater/Chiller
Running an inkbird wifi controller to 2x 50w aquazonic heaters and a 2 fan surface fan
  • RO/DI
Boss water systems 4 stage; all filter replaced with bunnings units last week.
  • Reactors(any kind calcium, carbon etc.)
Zombie reactor
  • Aquarium controllers
Just the inkbird
  • UV Sterilizers
Nope
  • Other?
Auto aqua smart ATO with a huge ro tank for the 5 weeks im about to go away.

(Sorry about photo quality; never been too worried about the tank photography)
