I'm interested in purchasing qt'd fish but am concerned about his process. It seems he might let copper drop below 2 as his range is 1.75-2.25 and also only treats for 2 weeks. Is this acceptable? @Jay Hemdal protocol calls for no less than 2 copper for 30 days. Anyone have thoughts on this? Thank you

I purchase all my fish from him.

I haven’t had anything that wasn’t already in my tank and they are upfront about the uranema risks.

All fish shown are from him, including the achillies.

Most of these fish have been in the tank at the start since May.

If he pulls the fish straight from copper and they have been asymptomatic for the two weeks, there is little increased risk over my proposed protocol. I go for 30 days because it is a bit better and home aquarists should be in no rush to move fish to their DT, while he needs to move fish out to get new ones.

Ok, perfect. That's what I needed to know. That's kinda what I always remember the protocol being but then over the last couple years it seems to be 30 days. It's been 4+ years since I've purchased fish and I'd like to replace my ywg that passed at 6 years

Other places better than the Dr in my opinion. He has been known to not even ship. Maybe he worked out the kinks. I have zero trust

TSM
Among the reef
Marine collectors they are known for a great qt process

I'd go other QT options. Far too many bad service stories here.

I use:

Ocean Devotion
Fishotel

Thanks, I'll give them a look. This tank has had zero fish for 4 years so I'm going to start with QT fish. All inverts and coral were QT for over 100 days in a separate tank before adding.

Also strikers reef. I never used them because the owner wouldn’t tell me his process. Tried 3 times but all three times I was told to read the website. If he can’t tell me he won’t get my money.

What's the uranema risk and any way to qt/treat for it?
I ran my own QT for a year and a half. That particular cilia is just hard to eradicate. My opinion is that the metro is either not effective, or the wrong dosages are being applied. It’s difficult to eradicate internal and external uranema. Healthy fish seem capable at keeping it at bay, but I personally would be weary of any vendor or person that thinks they can eradicate it with a high level of certainty. That’s just my take on it. Mileage may vary,

I’ve had plenty of fish that are susceptible to it and they are doing great. Unfortunately it’s something you have to live with once you have it and I just do my best to not stir up detritus.

I messaged him twice over the last month and got no response.
I also never got a response via email so I gave up. Plus I think ich will be present in nearly all home aquaria and the best way to deal with it is increase fish's immunity and also mechanical suppression like UV/Ozone is better long term.

I received 3 beautiful fish from him. The tang developed flukes within 4 days in my tank. Had to quarantine him for 2 weeks with prazipro and thankfully he survived. In the future I'd trust my own process for quarantine before introducing a fish via someone else's quarantine process.

That said, the fish he supplied were all beautiful.
