Am I right in thinking that if the bottom of the overflow box leaks, there is nothing stopping the water emptying from the aquarium through the dry box or is there another layer of protection to prevent this?

Hi , I know this is an old post now but you can treat the dry box as an external part of the tank in that there is a much chance of it leaking as any of the external joints.
