doing an aquascape with real reef rock. all new but I had a few pieces from an old biuld wanted to use been out of water for around a 18+ months maybe 2 years by now.

so I did a vinegar/water soak just to kill any possible algae that might have been on the rocks. i guess its a know issues with these rocks of you bleach or vinegar soak them the dye will come off. so i am let with a ton of white on the rocks. not the end of the world just does not match the new rocks and stand out like a sour thumb.

anyway thinking about splashing some paint or dye on them just to get some color.

this product I have been curious for some time:

https://addictivereefkeeping.com/pr...afe-colorant-for-dry-rock-aquascape-touch-up/

here is a product demo on dry rock:

thoughts?

I will be setting up a larger tank in a few months and was gonna go real reef rock but this might be a solution along with some dry rock for that tank as well.

I do wonder if it clogs the pours on the rock and makes the bio-filtration less effective?

no I did not the build is going slow.
that is good to know, do you have any pics of what you did?
Ended up using 4 different colors. It worked best using a sprayer with a handle.. still had to rinse it every few bits to keep the paint from clogging the nozzle

Reading ARK reviews gave me pause and I wouldn't feel super comfortable putting those in my tank.

where did you find any reviews? I have been looking found nothing. only person I have seen use it is above.

but like you I not even sure either, that's why I started this post. :D

I think it looks more natural in your pic.
I think most reefs are purple and white and green all different colors not just purple. It looks more unnatural to be all purple. IMO.

IMO, Coraline Algae is super easy to grow. You can even buy bottles of it online. I cut the tops off of the bottles, a brush them out in the tank, to get all the Coraline. Kent’s Purple Tech, accelerates the growth. Amino Acids help too. Another Source is from Snails, just pick out ones with a good growth on their shells.

Purple turds :p

The rock will color up on it's own in time with natural stuff and look nice.

yes of course but I also was thinking this for the large FOWLR I might be doing. so no corals frags to bring it in.
thought it might look better the 1st year until it starts to grow. IDK just curious.
