I have always used live for 30+ years.
3 years ago when I started my 120 I uses 50% caribsea and 50% real live rock. It workes well as you can follow in my build. I just took the 120 down but you can see the progress from day one.

This is what you can do if you use live rock. In my 20g nano cube I used live rock from my other systems. This nano will be 3 months old tomorrow and is mostly sticks.
Real live rock is worth every penny
You spend in this hobby.

I agree with the second paragraph. Dry rock can take a very long time to be “seeded” in our aquaria.

What’s superior about the Walt Smith man made rock though? I’ve heard this stuff is super dense and non-porous.

Fijian sand, Fijian coral skeletons, natural Fijian secret ingredient molded by hand in unique shapes. It’s porous and bumpy. Lots of nooks for organisms to move in.

Close up of arch, shelf and cave.

Close up after 6 months.
