My wrasse would pipe the surface and glass surf like mad rubbing their noses along the corners in the 20g conditioning/holding tank. No issues with that in the 150g.

There is definitely a point where size of aquarium can affect fish behavior. I am not referring to baby tangs, just in general.

Fish do not grow to the size of an aquarium but there growth can slow. Jay covered this...

There are plenty of tangs that are able to live their lives in smaller tanks Minimum 20gal like Ctenochaetus genus (Bristletooth, Kole Tang, Chevron)

As a person who used a 25g tank for observation for an adult Kole tang. I can't imagine keeping one in a 20g for 20 years or what not.

I am not sure if this is what you are suggesting or you mean just for growing one out.

Yep. No matter what lifeforms we decide to keep there are going to be arguments against it. Some based on actual data and others based on what our personal perceptions of what makes them happy. Let's take cats for example. I'm of the opinion that they should be kept indoors, but only if they start out as an indoor cat. We've got four. One goes outdoors. One can if it wants to, and two others that are indoor cats strictly. The two indoor cats are indoor because one is small and one is old and has been an indoor cat it's entire life. It's a measure of safety. Am I right? To me I am, as I love my cats and I want them to be both happy and safe. So I've created an arbitrary set of rules based on really nothing at all when it comes right down to it. I have, also, an arbitrary set if rules with fish. I have my beliefs as to what makes them happy, both data supported and not. In the end I think we all try to make it a win-win for anything we keep. And then discuss those belief systems with others.

Yes, But a dog is a domesticated animal but a fish is not.
You would not capture a wolf and keep it an any type of enclosure and call it humane.
Speak for yourself, my fish are all house trained. They only go to the bathroom in their tank

Jokes aside I’d agree that there are may fish we keep that prob aren’t appropriate for anything other than a public aquarium - open water swimmers like tangs, etc.

Then there’s fish like Clowns that in the wild or in a tank would never venture more than a few feet from their territory/anemone their entire lives. And when they do stray from there, they get lost and loose their dad and Pixar has to make a bunch of movies about them

LOL... and everyone on the "Tang Police Force" are Vegans... :thinking-face: :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:
You should always provide the best care for your animals as your situation dictates.
But some need to get off of their high horse and let that horse return to the wild or they are just being hypocrites. You can't judge who can or can't based on a sliding scale to suit your platform.
"For every finger you point at someone there are three fingers pointing back at you"
People should not be shamed but educated.
I thought it was 4 fingers pointing back at you.... Eh, I don't know. I guess it depends on how your thumb is positioned. Three fingers and a thumb pointing back at you, doesn't sound as good.

If you’re pointing at someone, how can your thumb point back at you? Unless your double jointed I guess.

The annoying thing about channels like this is some newb out there finds this video and uses it to justify putting one in their 10g.

I didn't watch it though so maybe he says its temporary or grow out tank. I grew my dwarf angel out in a 25g cube... took two years (sloww grower) and then it went to 150g.
As an LFS associate, I can’t tell you how big and widespread this issue is! We get so many Reef/SW/FW customers that say, “Oh, I saw it done on a YT video!”

Convincing them otherwise, is a hassle within itself!

Unfortunately YT is treated like a library of documentaries rather than one for home videos. People really believe most everything they see on the internet now, without context. Maybe it is because it’s often difficult to distinguish a casual home video from an official industry vetted source of information nowadays. Anyone can make and upload videos, even new hobbyists. It makes me question if I want to keep contributing to that confusion or not, myself.

Ok, I believe this has become one of those threads that just needs to die. Why? This thread needs to die because nobody is learning anything from the comments and I doubt anyone is going to suddenly change their point of view based on the conversation.

Not exactly. Reality is that you can put any 2” fish in a small tank assuming later moved to appropriate quarters and not fair to judge another without having all the facts or better yet. Don’t judge another since we all keep that which belongs on the reef. None here owns the right to righteous indignation yet we can teach others but in the end it’s there’s to choose how to go about their lives without our opinion of it.

That’s the internet where often that reserved face to face blurted without regard for others and not seeing that ever changing.

You can say anything that's fact or fiction on the internet. My point is that there is no value in doing so. You can continue to post what you believe to be true if you want, but it's pointless. Whether or not I reply to your response post makes no difference.

I tend to agree with that until I meet people who say I helped them. That’s what keeps me active in the community. Otherwise, yeah, the internet isn’t going to change much of our reefing habits after a certain point. We find what works for us and stick to it usually.
