Hi all! I just noticed my clown trigger has a dusty appearance and foxface has dusty fins. They have been in in the display for two weeks after a 73 day fallow period. Fish was in copper qt during that time. I’m hoping this isn’t velvet that made it through that period. Could you all help me identify this? Thanks!

Can you post a short video taken under white light?
Are the fish still eating?
Are they breathing fast/heavy?

They are still eating and breathing normally
The trigger has good body mass, isn’t breathing fast, but has cloudy eyes and skin. Have you considered it might be flukes?

I didn’t think of that. So I should treat all fish in qt?
Well, I’m not certain it is flukes, but Prazipro is generally a safe medication to use; dose 2x ten days apart and add extra aeration to the tank, turn off UV and stop carbon.

Can sand or debris cling to fish? I occasionally see what looks to be fine sand stuck to them. They dig and spit sand out a lot

Yes it can and is often mistaken for ich. However, ich is sometimes mistaken for sand! Sand typically won’t stay on a fish for more than a few hours. Ich spots typically stay put for 24 to 48 hours, anything still there after that time is something else.

Ok I got an interesting pic of the foxface under blue light. Maybe it is flukes…

That clearly isn't sand. What can happen is that fluke infestations then cause generalized bacterial infections at the site of the fluke attachment. That could be what you are seeing here.
