Hey all,
so I got my tank setup and cycling, but is this the quietest my overflow can get? It’s an eclipse S overflow with a herbie drain.

i have a gate valve on the drain and I tuned it to just below the emergency drain. The draining itself is pretty quiet. It’s just the tickling noise of the water falling inside the internal box.

Any help is appreciated.

Perhaps making your emergency drain tube a bit taller? If there's more water in the box, you shouldn't hear the water flowing into it from the tank.

I had to make a new emergency drain tube as the supplied one is too short causing the cascading water sound.

Over time as more crud and slime grows it will become silent

The problem with the eclipse is the outer box is to short and if you raise the emergency drain and then plug the primary, you will find it wants to overflow since it can’t drain fast enough to compensate. What I had to do was add an extension onto the outer box make it taller in order to handle the higher emergency drain. I also made the top of the emergency drain 1 1/4” by putting a coupler on it to give it more flow. Then I was safely able to tune the overflow to be pretty quiet. If I would have known all this I would have bought a better design, but once drilled, you’re stuck with it. I spent about 2 weeks playing with it in my shop before I set the tank up in my house where a water mess wouldn’t hurt anything.

Thank you all for the tips! I ended up removing the original emergency drain tube and installed a longer one. Now the entire setup is pretty quiet.

Appreciate all the help!
