Hello,

Was sent this eel but don’t think it is the banded snake eel I ordered. I think it’s a zebra and was hoping someone would confirm before adding to the tank or giving away.

Looks like a banded, Gymnothorax rueppellia and from what I understand they are way more aggressive then Zebra’s.

That's a barred moray G. Polyzona

They are a species of pebble tooth eels similar to the zebra moray

Thanks! I sent him back… heard they weren’t reef safe
Really unlikely to hurt fish, but the chances of them eating up your snails, hermits, crabs, shrimps, quite high and will likely do so, if you're worried about fish i would say that snake eels and or the zebra moray are by far the most reef safe among the eels

I was just told by supplier that it is a banded moray. Any ideas if that will be ok and if that is different from a zebra?
Banded moray yes. Not a zebra
