Anyone ever heard of or seen a tiny white crab hosting in a Aussie Elegance? I found one today in mine, gave me a bit of a fright so it was evicted to the trash. Given their sensitive fleshy body I suspected the crab might be a bad guy or I just over reacted and trashed a symbiot :(
My porcelain crabs, cleaner shrimp, and orange storms have all been in my elegances business. I moved my crabs to a different tank, cleaner just likes to stand on him, clowns chase him off then try to do the same. Even threw a bta in the tank, everyone prefers the elegance.

My elegance likes to eat snails if they come close, and got a couple emerald crabs too.

Mine is suppose to be from Vietnam. Local lfs says all their stuff has been coming from there. I will say some of the bta's are some of the biggest and nicest I've seen. They had a red and a green that were almost as wide as a basketball. Things were huge. The colonies were amazing also.

Randy,
How are your Elegance corals holding up?
I have gone through at least 5 of them since 2011. They are just so beautiful when fully open. Just picked one up at ReefPaloza last week in NY. Was walking out of show at very end to close time on Sunday and guy was asking great price.

Obviously they are all Aussi now.

Thanks for asking! The cut Aussie ones are all doing great.
These have been nothing like those conical base ones that seemed to die every time.
Happy and growing in two tanks, and clowns use the larger one as a host. :)

Actually mine has a cut base too. Most of my previous ones did have a conical base. Hmmm hadn't really thought about the difference.

Mine seems to be healthy. I see feeding response. He closed up when I broadcast feed my tank.

I got this Elegance about two years ago at local fish store. It is in a 180gal mixed reef tank under 3) Kessil A380x and 4 T-80 bulbs in Aquatic Life fixture. I run fairly heavy flow in tank. I also have a large 40 Watt Pentair UV Sterilizer on tank.

How do these look???
First photo when they look like that they usually means the end is near....

I moved the green mushroom and blastos away just in case also blew off sand and it looks like second photo.

Mine will sometimes close up in the evening, but if they stay that way during the midday photoperiod, it can be a bad sign.

A couple months ago, one of mine was closed during the day, which was a change, and it had me concerned.
Found that another coral near it had died and was starting to decay.
After I removed that, the elegance was back to it's happy self the next day.

This is what’s it’s looking like now. I just remember years back when I had Elegance that they looked this way when they were on their way out. Flesh would hang out and tentacles wouldn’t inflate.

Does that look heathy??

Doesn't look great.
Try different placement in the tank. Different light/flow.
Try a different tank.

I guess I’m doomed, seems to be a conical shaped elegance :(

I’ve relocated the coral down to my frag tank in basement.

Ouch!
Yeah, those are the "conical" ones.
You can clearly see the ones that are cut. Mine has a perfectly flat bottom.
I never thought about that difference before rkpeterson mentioned it.
Obviously they are collected in a different way but why one might be more adaptable is probably a mystery to us.

In trying to think back to what I had in past. This is probably my 6th one I’ve had. A friend of mine #Dangerdave and I both picked up similar pieces of elegance coral for same supplier about 2 years ago. Mine looked good for about 3-4 weeks then perished. His is alive in flourishing.... I will have to ask him if his is cone shaped or wall formation. Hopefully he will see the tag ;)

I think the elegance may be looking better in my frag system.
Same water, different flow and lighting.

We’ve sold quite a few Aussie Elegance over the past 6 months and have heard a lot of great feedback from our customers.
