Thought my hawkfish, Elmo, was a goner. I suspected he jumped into the over flow and I couldn't pull the over flow pipe up out of the bulk head to drain him down.

3 months later (tonight) my flame angel jumped into the overflow. This time though I pulled the pipe and tried to flush him but he wouldn't flush. I bent an old net and after a few hours was able to finally fish him out. He was in rough shape tonight but I think he will make it.

I never saw my hawk fish in the overflow at any point when trying to fish the flame angel out and thought he might have decomposed. But low and behold I checked the sump tonight and Elmo the hawkfish is back. He must've gotten flushed down. I'm so happy as he was one of my favorite fish. His fins are a bit tattered but what a trooper living in that small over flow so long, good thing I feed heavy!

Nice when you find missing fish your attached to. Etsy has items people just for that reason...to stop fish from getting past areas in our tanks...just an FYI.
Not advertising as I don't make them..but I bought this thought it was a great idea.
Red Sea has one as well ..

My overflow has a wier, they jump over it clipping this on would raise the water level to the grate and they would still probably jump over. Maybe I do a custom 3d printer option from fishofhex for a plastic lid that covers the top of it

I put my algea turf scrubber lid on top and put some fine mesh in there. Should be good for now until I get a permanent solution. May drill some small holes on the weir, and zip tie the mesh nice and taught
