Hello! I just picked this piece of rubber caulk (?) off of my urchin. Of course I don’t leave pieces of rubber in my tank so I got a bit worried as to where it came from. Luckily this piece came from a backwall overflow unit (Aqueon tank) that’s attached to the rear glass. So it’s not from the seam.

My concern / question is whether this is just a warning sign that my caulking might be degrading. The tank is about two years old. But I have no idea how long it may have been sitting in storage before I bought it.

Appreciate any thoughts, and thanks in advance!

@Lost in the Sauce and @tehmadreefer thanks for your thoughts. Much appreciated.

I was thinking I’d run my fingers along each seam feeling for loose spots or pieces and a visual inspection. But what other suggestions do you have?
