Hello!

Just curious what everyone's daily dosing volume is for 2 part calcium + Alk

I'm still trying to find my volume as my Alk keeps falling.

Daily dose volume of Calcium and Alkalinity: 46ml each

Tank Volume: ~ 100 gallons

Curent Alk: 7.5 DKH

Reef Type: SPS dominant

Thanks so much for your input!

Daily dose volume of Calcium and Alkalinity: 60ml

Tank Volume:
~ 109 gallons

Curent Alk: 8 DKH

Reef Type: SPS dominant

This is after a total aquascape reboot, ripping out a ton of overgrown monti, stylo, and stags. At peak consumption I was dosing 250ml a day of each. It is all about density. I will include a pic to give you an idea of density. The other of where the reef was a few months ago.

Thanks for the response y'all! I just upgraded from a 55 gal to a 100 gal, so trying to adjust my dosing appropriately. Same corals and rock, but I'm learning that I need much more dosing.

The best way to gauge alkalinity dosing is by dKH per day. That way you can compare any size tank or additive product.

Most folks dose 0.5 to 3 dKH per day. Newer tanks use less, down to almost none. nly a few tanks use over 3.5 dKH per day routinely, without it being driven by significant precipitation.

I Am using 2 part on all my systems and I want to see what you guys think. but my tanks are all consuming alk 3x times more than calcium. Is this normal for you as well? Can this be the issue why I have really red coraline algae on the rocks?

What do you guys think?

Here are some of the consumptions:

Red sea 140 gallon:
alk 35ml
cal 12 ml
mag 10ml

170 gallon systems
alk 40ml
ca 15ml
mag 10 ml

320 gallon systems
alk 70ml
ca 20ml
mag 15 ml

So those with established tanks, do the numbers (not chasing) start to make sense? Understanding that adding something to the tank will change the variable. I think I have a decent load of coral (can always have more)

I do not understand the question.

What number?

My goodness. Ever consider a calcium reactor?
I was actually going to use my calcium reactor, but I started the tank using the ESV, and it’s gone so well that I’ve just decided if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

I am also a fan of ESV. You must order the stuff by the pallet. I cut my usage in half with a Kalk stirrer. Got tired of refilling dosing jugs every two / three days.

Same. At least now I only order every 2 months or so. Anybody need buckets?

Adding the kalk stirrer was a good win from several perspectives. My pH stays 8.25-8.45 which is far better than before. Super easy to maintain and control with APEX doser.

You need to test every 24 hrs about same time each time put Alittle more alk in tank you will hit a sweet spot soon. It all depends how many corals are in tank depends on your dosing.time to test everyday

Where does one buy a kalk stirrer?

While they are useful if you are space limited, IMO a settled reservoir is a better method if you can fit one. It allows better control of potency, allows impurities to settle better than many stirrers, and takes less time if you use a large reservoir.

That said, I do not know the best places to buy them.
