Yeah they are all played out, but nothing looks quite as good as a big Goni or Torch in the blues

This week on R2R we're going to be focusing on Euphyllia and for good reason! They're dang beautiful!

The Euphyllia genus consists of Hammers, Torches, & Frogspawns. The movement they provide and their ease of care make them one of the most desired types of coral in the hobby. They can either have fused wall type skeletons or branching. All Euphyllia prefer a low flow, low light area. They usually do best placed low (bottom) or off to one side of your reef. They can take up a lot of room when fully extended and can also carry long sweepers so be sure to give them plenty of buffer space from other corals. Their mouths open wide deep under their tentacles so they can be fed large diameter meaty foods. - World Wide Corals

Out of Hammers, Torches, & Frogspawns, which one is your favorite and why?

I love all euphyllia. I think torches are my favorite but I have far more hammer corals in my collection. I love the movement of torch corals. How their tentacles whip in the flow.

I chose other. Only because the two I love aren’t on there, I absolutely love Frammers and it’s the only one I own out of the two I adore.

The other one I love is the Octospawn, but not just any octospawn, have you ever seen a Gold Octospawn? They are beautiful in person, IMHO Gold Torches, Hammers, Frogspawn don’t compare to the gold octospawn. Here’s a photo of one (I don’t own this species of Fimbriaphyllia).

Hammers by far!

Hammers are the reason I got into corals from FOWLR.

Although over the years my tank as evolved into SPS dominate, there is still a single large wall hammer in there. I will always have a hammer of some sort.

I voted Hammers because mine always look full and vibrant. My frogspawn don't seem to do as well. I should have included a photo but the tank doesn't light up until 4 hrs from now!

Torches come in the prettiest patterns (IMHO) but they're overpriced (IMHO) for how sensitive they are. I think octo and frogspawn are underrated. They come in a lot of subtle cream/orange/peach colors the others lack and their tentacles are so cool!

Also, I will add that these coral have changed genus.
Torch corals are the only euphyllia (Which is why we have never been able to keep torches with the rest that used to be under the euphyllia genus).
So all the corals we know as “Euphyllia” such as:
Octospawn
Grape
Hammer
Frogspawn
Frammer
Are now of the genus Fimbriaphyllia

Meh. I will still call them euphyllia. I still call them acans and scolys.
