I thought I was the only reefer here using those stands!
Well done on sump. I was thinking about going with a cpl used tanks on upgrade but you have me seriously rethinking that now.

4 years without servicing that pump? I should report you to Pump Protection Services!

I have 4+ years of buildup (and darn vermetids) that I need to get after in my overflows, weir & plumbing. I just hate the thought of it tho. Kind of a PITA to reach. Been putting it off repeatedly.

Remind me exactly how satisfying this little clean up project has been for you please. I need some encouragement.

I love my stand. Had a custom wallboard added for easy fragging from the display but as you can see, it’s become an area to store junk instead.

My first sexy sump... I’m loving it. My favorite part is the lower height. So much easier to reach into the sump. I might even maintain my pump more than once every 4 years.

That’s just a testament to the Jaebo return pumps. :D

Breaking vermatiids out of the overflows and return plumbing is the second worst reef related chore ever. The worst being cleaning the skimmer and emptying the skimmate reservoir.

If you would have saw the 1” thick layer of mud in the sump in person, you would be overly satisfied as I am to have a refresh on the sump. Up next is cleaning out the second frag tank and then on to the display. Will be removing the sand and replacing it as well as new rock for the display and working on a new aquascape.

Ty! Nice job! But keep your eye on nitrate and phosphate levels to make sure they don't drop now because you just stole the gold from the bank! :p
I have the opposite issue with the way I feed. Thankfully I stopped dosing lanthanum chloride for a bit and removed the denitrator... and start slowly ramping the refugium... keeping it on the shorter photoperiod until I see a rise in nutrients.

Speaking of... got my refugium light hung today. Grow little ball of chaeto, grow!

New sump Sunday! (Coined by @Charlie’s Frags )

New manifold I built out of 2” PVC

Old sump I made out of a used 75 gallon

This is why I did this. To be able to run socks and remove this build up of 4 years of goop

What 4 years of not maintaining your return pump looks like

New sump in place. Feels great to be able to reach in and work on it easily versus the old sump. Also, love that I’m being proactive about the buildup of detritus. It was everywhere! Lastly, looking forward to having a dedicated refugium now. Excuse the mess, I still need to organize the wires and place the probes neatly into the sump and also hang the refugium light.

Looks awesome and exhausting. I’m pretty sure I said “Sump day” though.

Well then I don’t need to credit you at all. :p
Totally exhausting. I kept googling... “at what age can you start asking the kids to push a 180 lb glass sump?” but didn’t find anything conclusive.

Being born with no chill mode... i decided to go ahead and start cycling my new rock. I’m going to try out the Caribsea “live” rock.
C9A5EA43-482D-466D-9047-1D97571D6CB0.jpeg

Used the tub I already pulled into the room for the sump swap. Had some sump rocks I wasn’t keeping so left them in the tub to seed the new rock... adding a bottle of bacteria as well. Going to let that stew for the next couple months and then work towards a new aquascape.

Last part is the sand. I’ll have to put the bags of new sand into a brute trash can and let it stew as well.
