I’d love to have a clam. I just feel like I’m too much of a noob for one and I’m not sure when the right time to add one is. My tank has been running since last October.

Do you need a sand bed in order to keep one? I have a bare bottom reef tank.
No. I also gave a BB tank. I made a flat piece out of E Marco cement, set the clam on it. That way you can move it if you need to. Clam has been happy on it.

Mimosa clam from PEA, mainly blue and tan with teal running through it. It’s grown 5 rows of scutes since purchase.

Six rows and counting. Definitely put on weight since purchase.

I picked up one today!! I used to have clams under halides, and they were smaller, where I'd feed marine snow daily. I feed phyto daily now and have it on BB under an 8 bulb ATI T5 fixture. Any recs or ID on this one?

Placed it into a mixed reef working on over 1.5 yrs old. Added about an hour ago. Its got some great coloration and a lot of mantle movement if walk by or get too near the glass. Im wondering if its already too late or if I should try to put it on a frag tile yet, or let it be happy there without messing with the foot again so soon?

We have a couple hitchhiker clams in our Christmas tree worm rock. I have no idea what species they are, two have a pale yellow mantle and one has a dark blue mantle, but that one rarely opens much. They're so embedded in the rock, I'm not sure how much they can open.

I have no idea what kind this is, but I've been reefing less than 2 years and just purchased it yesterday. My first, saw it and couldn't leave my LFS without it.
That is a healthy T. maxima. Hope he is still with you. Great shell growth indicates that he is and had been healthy for “many moon”
Update picture, top down please.

Taken pictures of clams is tricky unless you have a special arrangement, Special tank to take picture and special camera and light apparatus to take picture with. Healthy clams are so sensitive to light level changes, they retracted with minor change of light level.
I have Mandarin Crocea in the past but these three are closest I get to owning a Mandarin clam at this time.
