Seriously what's the secret here?
I'll buy a bunch of super healthy snails and a month later all I see are mostly shells and snails on their way out! I've bought from various places and the story seems the same. Maybe I have something eating them? I don't think so but maybe the flame hawkfish is picking them off. Haven't seen him though and that's the only fish in question. Maybe I'm not feeding the tank enough and with my multiple tangs the algae stays pretty much at zero issues.
Would love to hear from you!
Do you have issues with keeping snails for a long period of time?
How often do you buy snails?
What's your experience?

Don't worry no one will ever have this many user badges and they will be placed closer together. This is just a sample from the site refresh! Also we have spiffy forum icons as well!
Each forum badge will be clickable to a link describing how you obtain that badge plus it will have rollover text for a quick look at what it means.
And here are some forum icons!
Hello all im wondering how much flow everyone is running to their sump and if you have a refugium or not. I'm trying to plan a 90 with a fuge so I'm looking for any and all input. My 44 runs 5x per hour but i have been told that's too low as well as just right for my fuge. I compensate for flow with a 750gph powerhead for the coral.
Thank you all
As I sit tonight watching my tank I thought,am I completely satisfied with my reef?my answer to that question is no,i don't think I have ever been completely 100% satisfied.i think if I was I would get bored of it.i'm always looking for ways to improve what I already have as I think most reefers are.
we all strive for perfection and few attain it but I believe we all want it.
What would you like to do now or in the future to try an achieve your version of a "perfect"reef?for me I just want more and more corals to fill that want.i'm fairly happy with my fish but always seem to see that one more fish I would love to add but can't have for various reasons.so please chime in and let us know what you would do or like to do to improve your system.i hope we can have some fun with this one.
oh and if you give your tank a 10 PLEASE share a pic.we all gotta see those tanks!i'm a 6.
Many apartments limit the size of your aquarium, and some apartments may even ban aquariums. I'm curious how many of you live in apartments, what city you live in, and if you have run into trouble or frustrations due to living in an apartment.
I'll start. My building has a 'no pet' policy that no one follows so I keep a few tanks. I have 2 20 gallon freshwater tanks and I'm starting a 10 gallon reef tank in my tiny NYC 1 bedroom apartment. I dread moving day.

How do you feel about us hosting a tank contest where you pick your own theme and put together a tank? Avengers, Baseball, Spongebob, etc.. anything!
The rules could be real simple and the prize could be something REALLY nice since putting together a nice nano tank isn't all that easy!
Would you participate and what should the rules be?
Today we are featuring Ian R's fantastic SPS dominant reef tank. Ian is based in the UK and is currently running 2 x Photon 50-V2 and 2 x Photon 24-V2. The tank measures 6 feet long by 2.5 feet front to back and 2 feet tall, and is about 220gallons in volume.
Ian noted that he worked up to his current lighting schedule over a 4 week period, and runs a high iodine system. In addition to the main display there is an attached sump and 3 tier frag system.
Ian's full lighting schedule is in the photo gallery below. Thank you again for sharing!
Ian's tank was shared in the ReefBreeders Experts Club first! Not a member? Join now- all are welcome, whether you have our gear or are looking to upgrade your tank!
It's time for another SHOUT OUT and poll!
The owner of Abyzz Pumps asked a question and I would like to help him out and get a consensus!
When it comes to your return pump would you rather the pump auto shut off with an audible alert if the pump runs dry for an amount of time or would you rather the pump keep trying to pump with an audible alert as well?
There are many different scenarios where you could lose equipment or your livestock either way you choose but what do you prefer and why?
I'm thinking of mounting some encrusting montis and maybe some shrooms on the center overflow of my RSR 250. Would love opinions on this, particularly if you think its a bad idea. Let me know if you have experiences with this.
Pics are always welcome!!
How many times per day do you run your dosing pump for your Ca, Alk, Mag, etc? Only once per day? Twice a day? 4 times, 6 times, 12 times?
What do you think is the most stable for you parameters, and also the best for dosing accuracy. I was dosing 12 times per day, but because I have a pretty low Ca, Alk, and Mag need currently, I am thinking of bumping it down to 4 or 6 times per day so when my dosing unit kicks on its pumping out more than 1-3 ml per time. What do you all do?
I get asked a lot about color recommendations for reef tanks. We designed our layout to be pretty balanced, but I find a lot of our customers choose to run the blue channels (3, 5 and 6) much higher than the white channel (4). This question goes for the V2 and the older models, too. What do you run your blues at in relation to your white channel?
The answer is formatted as a ratio of White:Blue, so 40:60 is 40White:60Blue for example. We were gonna ask this by kelvin rating, but I find that to be largely subjective and hard to measure.
Answer the poll and compare answers in the thread below!

I was changing out my water yesterday and noticed I didn't have as much polyp extension from some of my sps corals and it got me thinking. I'm sure my issues were me messing around in the tank and with the water but I wanted to know your thoughts.
What is the first indicator that your sps corals might be in trouble?

Since we are going in to a weekend and stopping by your favorite LFS to check out what's new is so irresistible, thought it might be fun to see just how far you are willing to travel to get to your favorite LFS. Also curious if you pass by others to get to the store of your choice.
