Do you guys / gals leave the inner part of your magnetic glass cleaners in the tank? I have always left mine in, but I pulled it out the other day and it stunk really bad like rotten eggs. It's probably been close to a year since I've pulled it out lol. I'm thinking I need to be cleaning it a little more often

Help us decide which short we will have printed for our 2018 Partner Member drive!
Which version of the shirt do you like best? Remember these come in short sleeve too but would not have the sleeve print for obvious reasons.
1. Was one that you had already seen before we'll call this one: Square Original
2. This one is a pocket logo with sleeve text only we'll call it: Pocket Logo
And here is the logo that you can see better:
3. This was the original design added to the back with the pocket logo on front. Not sure how I feel about that back design. We'll call it: Front and Back
4. Front Circle Logo with back R2R Logo
The alkalinity part of two part additive system can generally be formulated with bicarbonate and/or carbonate. Bicarbonate gives a slight pH lowering effect and carbonate gives a pH boost, and any mixture of them can be used to get any desired pH effect in between.
But those are not the only choices. Hydroxide can also be used, and food grade sodium hydroxide is inexpensive. The pH boost is quite a bit higher than for carbonate (about 2x), and the concentration can be made much higher since it is much more soluble than sodium bicarbonate or carbonate.
For manual dosing, such a product might not be a good choice with too rapid of a big pH boost.
Today, however, dosing pumps have become so pervasive that such a product can easily be used and could have substantial benefits over existing two parts.
Additionally, I think any current manufacturer of two part systems could likely swap out the carbonate and bicarbonate and swap in hydroxides with no reformulation needed (stressing "I think"). So your favorite company could easily come out with a new version, and the new versions could be made more concentrated, if desired (at the least, there'd be less cost to ship less water).
Just read this news and thought you all would like to know!
The most iconic aquarium fish from Hawaiis’ aquarium fishery, Yellow Tangs graze on a Hawaiian Coral Reef. For the moment, a Hawaii Supreme Court ruling means that not a single one will be harvested for the aquarium trade.
"On the evening of Wednesday, September 6th, Hawaii’s State Supreme Court issued a ruling that effectively halts Hawaii’s commercial aquarium fisheries for the foreseeable future."

Polling the audience to see what type of lighting are you currently running over your reef aquarium?
Let us know what you're using and if you have plans to change anytime soon!
As we have an active conversation regarding Alkalinity monitoring under way, I got to thinking I should probably have asked this question first.
Of all the “parameters” we monitor, test and check for in an effort to reach that ultimate goal of stability, in your opinion, where does alkalinity fall in order of importance? Is it before or after items such as salinity, pH, temperature, NO3, PO4, others?
The poll is looking for where you would rank Alkalinity specifically. Please feel free to share your full list in order of importance or even what you think is more important that Alkalinity below.
There have been several discussions recently on the topic of automated alkalinity monitoring. My friend Daniel @mdbannister thought it might be interesting (and I totally agree) to poll members to see which of the new alk monitoring options (that are either in the market or in development) they're watching most closely.
So let everyone know which one has peaked your interest the most.

We are wanting to put a poll together for the BEST return pumps in the aquarium industry! Help us out by posting your favorite pump manufacturer. It would also be helpful if you tell us why!
Ah, the old parameter testing. That thing we all love to do so much! Would be interesting to see how often people actually test their water. This poll is simply to look at frequency, not the actual parameters tested or which kits you're using. So even if you only test one parameter, but you do it daily, you're answer would be every day!
