Hi all,

I wasn’t that happy with anti-sync for my 2 MP40WQDs as it seems to be underutilising the strength of the pumps.

I looked at WWC suggestions and came up with the attached images basically one is opposite of the other with nutrient transport mode for 3 hours on each pump at 3PM and 3AM respectively:

12AM-6AM 80% reef crest
6AM-12PM 80% constant
12PM-6PM 80% reef crest
6PM-12PM 80% constant

Looking to run mostly SPS with some mixed corals.

When I used ESL to control mine, I ran NTM in the morning and early evening to kick stuff up, then reef crest all day and lagoon at night. Two mp40’s in your tank will barely cover sps for long, if at a all. I think you’ll need more flow if that’s the direction that you want to go?

Thanks and yes I do - I notice reefbum uses 2 MP40s but his two returns look very powerful. Good idea on the NTM - I wanted to use it early morning 3AM and 3PM to cover any coral that may be open at that time.

Also I’ve just updated it so I run it on anti sync for each pump @ 3AM and 3PM for nutrient transport mode so both pumps are working.

I was considering adding an MP60 as things grow in, or stick a tunze stream into the back... I just want to keep as many cords and equipment out of the tank as possible.

I would say you need more flow for SPS. I have 2 MP40s mounted on the back wall in my 75g and I use reef crest all day and lagoon at night.

On my custom 90g I have two mp40's on the back wall and two gyres opposite of each other on the sides, plus two 3/4" returns with random flow generators. I'll eventually add a small pump to the back wall to move detritus from the back. All my rock is spread out in the middle with nothing touching the sides or back. It's an open scape, which allows for flow throughout. I control all the pumps, except my return with the Hydros wave engine, which completely rules! It's the best way to sync all my powerheads under one roof.

Reef dude's 180 peninsula tank running with two MP60. I'm getting four MP40 for my 180 build. It's better to get more pump in flow rating than you need, so that you have room various the flow. Chaotic flow is best. When use in dynamic flow, a pump usually only output 50% of the max setting on average.

4 would be better. I run 4 in my 180. When more gross your I’ll be adding gyre 350’s on the ends in between the mp’s.

On my 250 gallon (60x36x27), I have 4 Gyre 250s on the sides and 2x jebao PP15 on the back. I agree that 2x MP40 may not be wide enough for a 30" tank. At least with the layout of a 30" tank, it's harder to get a dispersal from a point source wave maker.
